Proprietary methodology

The Gulf Exposure Index.

A 0–100 score describing how strongly the local environment is stressing each asset. It adds climate context to condition data so maintenance can be prioritised where Gulf conditions matter most.

How it is calculated

Six stressors, one weighted score.

Each stressor is normalised to a 0–100 sub-score from site and sensor data, then combined using the weights below. Higher means harsher exposure. The weights are GulfTwin.AI's current modelling assumptions and are calibrated per site during a pilot.

GEI = 0.25·Heat + 0.20·Dust + 0.15·Salinity + 0.15·Thermal + 0.13·Corrosion + 0.12·Humidity

Heat

25%

Qatar summer daytime temperatures regularly exceed 45°C. ISO 5151 rates air-conditioning equipment at 35°C (T1) and defines a separate 46°C (T3) hot-climate condition, at which capacity is lower.

Inputs · Ambient dry-bulb, equipment load, hours above rated ambient

Dust

20%

North-westerly shamal winds, strongest in early summer, drive frequent dust and sand events across the Gulf. Fine particulate fouls filters and coils and abrades rotating parts.

Inputs · Particulate (PM10), wind speed/direction, filter differential pressure

Salinity

15%

Arabian Gulf seawater is typically around 39–42 PSU, saltier than the ~35 PSU ocean average. Onshore winds deposit chloride aerosols on coastal equipment.

Inputs · Distance to coast, chloride deposition, prevailing wind

Thermal stress

15%

Large day–night temperature swings and start/stop cycles create repeated expansion and contraction. For transformer insulation, IEC 60076-7 describes ageing roughly doubling per 6°C hot-spot rise.

Inputs · Daily ΔT, load cycling, hot-spot or winding temperature

Corrosion

13%

ISO 9223 classifies atmospheric corrosivity from C1 to CX using wetness, chloride and SO₂. Coastal Gulf industrial sites are frequently assessed in the higher categories.

Inputs · ISO 9223 category, coating condition, inspection findings

Humidity

12%

Coastal summer humidity is high, and warm nights can bring condensation. Moisture combined with salt and dust accelerates corrosion and electrical tracking.

Inputs · Relative humidity, dew point, time of wetness
0–39 · Moderate

Environment adds limited stress. Standard intervals usually apply.

40–69 · Elevated

Environmental wear is meaningful. Consider seasonal inspection and cleaning.

70–100 · Severe

Environment is a dominant driver of wear. Prioritise mitigation and closer monitoring.

What the index is — and is not

  • • It is a GulfTwin.AI modelling framework, not an industry standard or certification.
  • • It complements, not replaces, vibration, oil, thermographic and electrical condition monitoring.
  • • Scores shown in the public demo come from a synthetic facility and are illustrative only.
  • • Climate facts on this page reference public standards (ISO 5151, ISO 9223, IEC 60076-7) and general regional climatology.
